The American University in Cairo is a private, English-language research university in New Cairo, founded in 1919 by the American Mission in Egypt. Accredited in both Egypt and the United States, it is organized into five schools spanning business, global affairs and public policy, humanities and social sciences, and sciences and engineering. It enrolled its first female student in 1928.
